Owens & Minor is a distributor of medical and surgical supplies to approximately 4,000 hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and alternative care facilities in the United States. The company delivers products including disposable gloves, dressings, endoscopic products, intravenous products, needles and syringes, sterile procedure trays, surgical products and gowns, urological products, and wound closure products. The company also manages inventory and supply chains for many of its customers, ensuring that hospitals have the supplies they need when they need them.

For the most part, Owens & Minor seems to go about its business without drawing a lot of attention to itself. On the one hand, the company has not been named to Business Week’s Top 100 Companies to Work For, nor has it been named to Business Ethics’ Top 100 Corporate Citizens. On the other hand, they have never had an EPA violation, and they have quietly passed all of the ethical screens used by Calvert Social Funds.
